There were rumors of an altercation between Kareena Kapoor and Bipasha Basu while the 2001 movie Ajnabee was being filmed. In a 2002 interview, Kareena was questioned about Bipasha after she said that the actor and the clothing designer for Ajnabee, Vikram Phadnis, had argued. Bipasha’s confrontation with Kareena was described as her “only claim to fame.”

Kareena made her acting debut in 2000 alongside Abhishek Bachchan in JP Dutta’s Refugee, whereas Bipasha, a former model, made her acting debut in Ajnabee. In the thriller, which was helmed by Abbas-Mustan, Akshay Kumar and Bobby Deol also starred. Kareena recalled how Bipasha issued a statement about the ‘indecent names’ reportedly used against her months after the film’s debut. Bipasha’s statements were referred to by Kareena as “a fabrication of her imagination.”
