In the third game of the 16th season of the IPL, the Impact Player Rule was creatively applied for the first time. As Ayush Badoni was removed by Delhi Capitals pacer Chetan Sakaria in their final over, Lucknow Super Giants pulled a rabbit out of their hat. Krishnappa Gowtham enters the game as a pivotal player with one ball left in his inning. The slower ball from Sakariya was taken up by the right-handed batsman from Karnataka, who then sent it well into the stands. In order to make an effect, Gowtham was substituted for Badoni, who had been out after the previous ball.
Gautam, an impact player, scores a six on his lone shot.
This demonstrates the rapid thinking of the LSG leadership, which is comprised of captain KL Rahul, coach Andy Flower, and mentor Gautam Gambhir. A player who can make an impact can enter the game upon the fall of a wicket and start batting right away, per IPL rules. Gautam was brought in by LSG under that rule.

This does not imply that the last ball was considered when making this move. Gautam, who can bat in the bottom order and is a good hitter, is predominantly an off-spinner. He took Badoni’s place as a pure hitter, mostly to provide the LSG another bowling option. The punt that was made on the final ball, though, really made this move amazing.

Impact player K Gautam scores a six on the final ball of the IPL game between LSG and DC.

Oddly enough, DC made good use of its impact players. In the 19th over, after completing his allotted four over, impact player Aman Khan took the position of left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed. The latter now bowled the final over, although for the final six balls of the LSG innings, he brought fresh legs on the pitch. Khaleel was worn out after casting his magic on Tuesday, February 30. Khan, on the other hand, is a versatile player who can both contribute on the pitch and strike decisively when necessary.

Both sides utilised their key players before the first innings was over in this game for the first time in IPL 2023. The second innings of the last two games saw the employment of impact players by CSK, GT, KKR, and PBKS.

In this IPL season, the impact player rule is being implemented for the first time.

In terms of the game, West Indies all-rounder Kyle Mayers scored 73 off of 38 balls to aid Lucknow Super Giants in making an outstanding 193/6. Barbados’ left-handed batter, who was brought in to fill in for South Africa’s opener Quinton de Kock, punished dearly for dropping the Capitals for 14 runs by slamming a 28-ball fifty while their innings were just seven runs long.
