David Warner, the captain of the Delhi Capitals, has consistently performed well in the IPL over the course of his career. He has six matches remaining in the current IPL 2023 and has already struck four half-centuries, placing him second on the Orange Cap leaderboard with 285 runs. Warner, though, has been the focus of the strike rate discussion as seasoned cricketers have criticised his lethargic performance. The former India wicketkeeper Virender Sehwag, who launched a vicious attack on the DC captain, was the most renowned of those critics. Warner has since addressed the criticism.
Warner, David, and Sehwag, Virender
Sehwag issued an ultimatum to the Australians almost two weeks ago, during the match against the Rajasthan Royals, in which Warner hit 65 off 55 balls in DC’s 57-run loss in Guwahati.
“I believe the moment has come for us to say it to Warner in English so that he will be hurt when he hears it. Play nicely, David, if you’re listening. 50 runs were scored in 25 balls. Take a cue from Jaiswal; he made a four out of 25 balls. Don’t come and play in the IPL if you are unable to accomplish that.
In the same conversation, former Indian cricketer Rohan Gavaskar claimed that if there was an uncapped Indian player, this would be his final IPL match.
Warner improved on Thursday, contributing to DC’s first victory in the 2023 IPL with a 57-ball 41 against Kolkata Knight Riders. Warner discussed the persistent criticism of his strike rate during the post-game news conference and laid the blame for it on his teammates.
There are many complaints that I am not batting the way I do, he stated. Yet after facing three balls, what happens when you lose three wickets in a row in two overs? Nothing can be done by you You exhibit some accountability, “added he.
“When I left Bangalore, I’m sure that many would have criticised me for leaving, but that’s just the way the game is.”
