Actresses Swara Bhasker and Sonu Sood have defended the wrestlers who are protesting in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over claims that Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) head Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had harassed them sexually. Sangeeta Phogat, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, and many other renowned wrestlers are participating in the protest.

In an effort to demonstrate her support, Swara posted a video message on Twitter on Friday with the caption, “Shameful that our top international athletes are obliged to protest against sexual harassment on the streets while the accused BJP MP is continually being hounded by the government.” #IStandWithMyChampions. Swara stated in the video that she is not supporting them because they are top-tier athletes, but rather because if this is the case with such exceptional wrestlers, what will happen to a regular woman/victim. He also questioned why, when these athletes won gold for the nation, the leaders of the ruling party didn’t object to taking pictures with them, but now they are avoiding them. He also asked for assistance from the public.

Pooja Bhatt, who tweeted in favor of the wrestlers on Friday and accused athlete PT Usha of gaslighting them, is one of those cheering them on. On Thursday, PT Usha stated that the wrestlers should have contacted the IOA as opposed to protesting the WFI and its president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in public.

Along with Bollywood stars, a number of Olympic medal winners have spoken out in favor of the wrestlers who are protesting. Olympic gold medalists Abhinav Bindra and Neeraj are among them.
