Gauri Khan joined the family as an interior designer when they faced a financial difficulty, according to recent remarks by Shah Rukh Khan. Before buying their bungalow Mannat was out of their budget so they decided to spend the money on items they needed. He talked about the period when the couple had purchased their first property in Mumbai. Gauri Khan was carrying her first kid, Aryan Khan, at the time.

Before Aryan Khan came, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan purchased their first home in Mumbai in 1997.

My Life in Design, a coffee table book by Gauri Khan, was just released. In the book’s preface, Shahrukh dedicated a portion to her. Shah Rukh recounted the day he tried to buy a sofa for his home but discovered it was too pricey on Twitter, which brought up the topic. Gauri’s interest in design so got its start when she bought the raw materials, sketched out her idea, and gave the carpenters instructions on how to create it.

It all began when we purchased our first home in Bombay. Needless to say, it was beyond our means, but we needed a place to live because we were expecting Aryan, Shah Rukh wrote. Hence, it was decided that we would try to purchase items for the house when we got the money. Because we couldn’t afford a designer, Gauri decided to do it herself.

“We once tried to purchase a sofa, but it was too expensive. Instead, we purchased the leather for the sofa during one of our travels and patiently awaited a carpenter to complete the design that Gauri had drawn in a notebook. This continued for a few years, and when things appeared to be going well for us, we purchased a larger house, Mannat. The same excuse was used: we had no money left for the inside because we had spent all of our money on the property. So once more, by default Gauri was promoted to interior designer at that point, he continues.

In 1991, Shah Rukh and Gauri wed after a roughly six-year affair. In 1997, they welcomed their first child, Aryan Khan. Suhana Khan, their subsequent child, was born in 2000, while their youngest son, Abram Khan, was conceived through surrogacy and delivered in 2013.
