As the director Yash Chopra’s film Daag celebrated its 50th anniversary on Thursday, seasoned actress Sharmila Tagore paid tribute to him. One of the most enduring romantic Hindi movies featured Daag with Rajesh Khanna and Raakhee. The movie was called Sharmila. Sharmila recalls being struck by a snowball while filming the movie in Shimla when talking about her experience working with Yash Chopra and Rajesh Khanna.

Sharmila stated to news agency ANI, “I believe it is astonishing that it has been 50 years since we did Daag, yet the film and the songs are so well-known. Yash Chopra made his debut as a producer with Daag. In reality, Ek Chehre Pe Dusre Laga Dete Hain by Manoj Bajpayee (with whom I co-wrote Gulmohar) has recently become popular. I had to ask him not to sing it. My response was one of unmatched excitement when I was offered Daag. I considered it a wonderful honor and compliment to be a part of Yash’s debut project, his first movie as a producer. I was ecstatic beyond belief.
“It was a fantastic experience working in Daag. Even back when I coworked with Yash at the time, it was a fantastic experience. He was always such a blast. He inspired everyone on the set to work harder as a director. Anyone who has worked with him will attest that he was a live wire due to his passion for Punjabi and other things. When we were filming for Daag, we were in such stunning places. One morning while we were filming in Shimla, I awoke to find the countryside completely blanketed in snow. It was a beautiful sight from my hotel window, but it also meant I had to report for work because no automobiles could drive through the snow. I remember getting ready, doing my hair and makeup, and barely taking five steps when something incredibly hard hit me—it was a snowball. I couldn’t go.
“As I turned to object, a group of laughing females greeted me with, “Yeh to hamara khel hai, hum to khelenge. I tried to persuade them, but they weren’t receptive (laughs). I suppose I tossed a snowball at him as well, but my aim wasn’t quite as well as his. I had to walk to the location, which was thankfully not too far away, and I was frequently struck by snowballs. However, I believe that by the time it was over, I had mostly enjoyed it. It is another thing, though, that I had to change places because I had gotten wet, so they created a temporary room where I changed my saree. Anyway, playing their game “Yeh to hamara khel hai, hum to khelenge” was a lot of fun.
Sharmila recalled Rajesh Khanna’s involvement in the movie and added, “I think Kaka gave a memorable performance in Daag and he would sport that mustache and that dashing look in his later avatar as Rakhi’s husband.” looked really gorgeous with.. so you know he acted.. he had two different phases in his life and he was already the heartthrob of the country and he was so cool.. I’m extremely grateful and glad that Kaka and I were a hit team thanks to the positive reception we received from the public. Daag is undoubtedly one of the great movies we produced together, and people still talk about us today. Chat with me! I’m really appreciative.
Daag, which was published in 1973, was well-received. In addition to Sharmila and Rajesh, it included lead performances by Madan Puri, Kader Khan, Prem Chopra, and AK Hangal. In Gulmohar, Sharmila was last observed.
