This Friday, July 28, the eagerly anticipated romance comedy Rocky and Rani’s Love Story will finally hit theaters. The Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt movie received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) prior to its launch, although without suggesting some edits and modifications.

The love tale of Rocky and Rani is Karan’s seventh film as a director, celebrating his 25th year in the business. This is his first film under his own direction in seven years, following Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). The movie, which was co-produced by Viacom18 Studios and Karan’s Dharma Productions, also stars Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi.

CBFC Enforces Cut

As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC has implemented some cuts and changes in Rocky and Rani’s love story before issuing a U/A certificate.

  1. The profanity ‘b********d’ has been replaced with ‘sister di’.
  2. ‘Bra’ has been converted to ‘Item’.
  3. The popular rum brand Old Monk has been replaced by ‘Bold Monk’.
  4. Three dialogues were cut entirely from the film, including a reference to the Lok Sabha and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and a lingerie shop scene which was deemed ‘vulgar’ and ‘degrading to women’.
  5. Changes have also been made in the scene of Rabindranath Tagore, which attracted everyone’s attention in the trailer.

The final runtime of Rocky and Rani’s love story is said to be 2 hours 48 minutes.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Mein Cuts

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, a 2016 love drama starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai, and Fawad Khan, was Karan’s most recent project as a director. The CBFC made certain modifications to the movie to grant it a U/A rating. Anushka Sharma’s kissing has been cut by “50%,” and the line “Kiska zida hot hai” has been changed to “Kaun zida hot hai.” The film only had a seven-second runtime due to a total of five cuts.

To minimize any backlash over the choice to cast Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, the producers were also urged to add a disclaimer in honor of the victims of the 2016 Uri incident.
