Raveena Tandon finally breaks silence on rejecting AR Rahman’s song Chaiyya Chaiyya (Photo Credits – Instagram; Movie Still)
In the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s, Raveena Tandon was one of the top Bollywood actresses. He also won various honours, including two Filmfare Awards and a National Film Award. She recently disclosed that she had previously declined an offer to perform the AR Rahman song Chaiyya Chaiyya from Dil Se.
Mani Ratnam’s 1998 film Dil Se was released to the general public. Shah Rukh Khan, Manisha Koirala, and Preity Zinta make their acting debuts in the Hindi romantic thriller.
After her saviour song, “Sheher Ki Ladki,” got popular, Raveena Tandon said she was approached about singing in an interview with Bollywood Bubble. “Standardization was extremely simple back then. How many people would be aware, for instance, that I dropped a song like “Chaiyya Chaiyya” since I had just finished “Sheher Ki Ladki” and only had proposals for item songs after that.
Then, he continued, “it became expected that whenever Raveena is present, there should be a superhit song, and for that, I am extremely appreciative because even today, people still associate me with my superhit songs, all of which are remixes. They’re starting a new life, everything is going well.
Shilpa Shetty declined to sing this song when it was offered to her, joining Raveena Tandon in doing so. Malaika Arora, however, performed the dance routine. Shilpa, Raveena, and many other actors were initially offered the dance number Chaiyya Chaiyya, but none of them accepted, Farah Khan said at the 2019 International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. It was performed by Malaika.
