Bollywood director Pradeep Sarkar, who made ‘Parineeta’, ‘Mardaani’, dies at 67 (PC: Instagram)
Pradeep Sarkar, a renowned filmmaker with a National Award who is recognized for producing emotional and impactful movies like Parineeta and Mardaani, passed away here on Friday morning after a protracted illness.
He was 67 years old, and today at 4 PM at the Santacruz cremation, his final rites will be performed.
Pradeep Sarkar was admitted to the hospital last night for treatment of renal and related problems, according to his friends and coworkers, but he passed away this morning.
As word of Sarkar’s passing spread, well-known Bollywood stars including Kangana Ranaut, Ajay Devgn, Manoj Bajpayee, Ashok Pandit, Neetu Chandra-Srivastava, Hansal Mehta, Neil Nitin Mukesh, and others offered their condolences and paid tribute to him.
As Kangana Ranaut penned: “It was during the Noti Binodini prep meet; you can see his hand in the first frame. Pradeep dada knew I loved Bengali food. Very wonderful news, see you soon.” Wale My heart is breaking and I won’t be able to handle this dreadful news about Mumbai.

Early in the 20th century, Sarkar began working in the entertainment industry as a commercial and music video actor. In 2005, he made his directorial debut with the film “Parineeta,” which starred Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, and Vidya Balan.
He co-edited the hugely successful Vidhu Vinod Chopra movie “Munna Bhai MBBS” as well as other movies like “Lafangey Pandey” (2010), “Mardaani,” and “Helicopter Eela” (2016) over the years (2003).
The web series “Cold Lassi Aur Chicken Masala,” “Arranged Marriage,” “Forbidden Love,” and “Duranga” were all directed by Sarkar starting in 2019.
