In about a month, WWE will rebrand their upcoming premium live event as Backlash 2023 and do away with the word “WrestleMania.” As previously reported, Puerto Rico will host the first premium live event (PLE) to take place there in more than 18 long years, the first PLE since WrestleMania 39.

Also, Bad Bunny will host WWE Backlash 2023 outside of the appropriate USA territory, WWE Head Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque is thrilled to announce.

“As the demand for WWE premium live events outside of the continental United States continues to rise, we are thrilled to bring Backlash to San Juan. One of the most well-known artists in the world, Bad Bunny is especially well-liked in his own Puerto Rico. Not any clearer.

Statistics and historical events from the opening night of WWE PLE for Wrestlemania 39

Bad Bunny made a stop at WrestleMania 39 where he assisted the great Rey Mysterio in defeating his son, Dominik Mysterio, before making his way to his hometown to host Backlash 2023. After that, he will face a challenge from a former WWE Champion who also appears to be WrestleMania 39’s host.

The Miz wants Bad Bunny at WWE Backlash 2023

The Miz expressed his desire to face the Puerto Rican rapper once more on a big stage in a conversation with Steve Fall of WrestlingNews.co. The A-Lister stated that confronting Bad Bunny once more in Puerto Rico following their previous confrontation at WrestleMania 37 would be a dream match for him.

What did The Miz have to say about John Cena’s sole match at WrestleMania 39 vs Backlash 2023?

“I’m taking on Bad Bunny head-to-head. In Puerto Rico, it seems like a perfect match. The problem about John Cena is that he is a world-renowned athlete. You may check out the television show Peacemaker, the movies he’s done, and all the awards he receives in the WWE. He has worked hard. John Cena is the only person with a harder work ethic, and it is evident and appealing to us.

As announced, WWE Backlash 2023 will be on Saturday, May 6 in Puerto Rico. Since hosting New Year’s Revolution in January 2005, which featured the Elimination Chamber match as the main event, this will be the first WWE pay-per-view in Puerto Rico. Being the host, Bad Bunny will probably take a major part in the events surrounding PLE.
