Renowned actor Sameer Khakhar, most known for his squeamish portrayal of “Khopdi” in the television series “Nukkad,” passed away in this city on Wednesday. He was in his 70s.
In the early hours of morning, a family member said that Khakhar, who had been ailing for a while, had experienced multi-organ failure at a private hospital in the suburban Borivali area.
Later today, his final rituals will be performed at the Vaziranaka cremation in Borivali West.
Khakhar is well known for playing an alcoholic in the well-known comedy-serial “Nukkad,” which Kundan Shah-Saeed Mirza directed and which aired on Doordarshan from 1986 to 1987. He has a roly-poly personality with wide eyes on a round face.
Working with the finest directors and actors of the day, he has been in key and supporting roles in more than 40 Bollywood films, Gujarati theater productions, half a dozen teleserials, including “Naya Nukkad” and the most recent web series, “Sunflower” (2021).
