According to Kamal Haasan, he didn’t like, actually hated, the classic Bollywood film Sholay. On the movie, which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, and Jaya Bachchan, Kamal served as the assistant director.

At San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, Kamal debuted his new movie Kalki 2898 AD alongside Prabhas and Rana Daggubati. Amitabh and Deepika Padukone are also in the sci-fi movie, which is directed by Nag Ashwin, but they were not present when the movie was announced. Amitabh joined the cast of this event virtually.
Kamal praised Big B
Amitabh Bachchan interrupted Kamal while he was praising the Bollywood star during a promotional event for his upcoming movie. Kamal stated: “The vitality that our audience brings to our theater is the most important factor. They make stars, we make movies. It’s also an honor to watch actors like Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan while seated in the audience.”
Stop being so humble, Kamal, you are much bigger than all of us, Amitabh, who was also on the video call, reprimanded him. You are not required to perform this. It takes a lot of effort to accomplish the kind of work that Kamal has done. He puts a lot of effort and reality into making each of his movies. Being in the same movie as him is an honor.
Kamal hated Sholay, and told Ramesh Sippy
After that, Kamal thought of Amitabh’s most famous movie, Sholay. For those who have fond memories of Sholay, I was an assistant director. I also had trouble falling asleep that night after seeing Sholay. First of all, as much as I detested the movie, I detested Ramesh Sippy even more. I had the chance to work with that talented filmmaker, and I told him that was how I felt after watching the movie. I was unable to sleep that night because I was a technician working on that kind of movie. When I was an assistant director watching Sholay on the big screen, I could never have imagined that Amit ji, who has made numerous such films, would praise my films. I appreciate it, Amit ji,” he said.
Amitabh and Kamal have collaborated on other projects besides Sholay and the upcoming Nag Ashwin movie, including the 1998 film Geraftaar, which also starred Rajinikanth. Disha Patani is most likely going to star in Kalki 2898 AD, which is slated for a January 12, 2024, theatrical release and is produced by C Aswani Dutt’s Vyjayanthi Movies.
