Justin Baldoni’s Lawyer Criticizes Ryan Reynolds’ ‘SNL’ Joke Mocking Blake Lively Feud
Ryan Reynolds’ joke during Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special did not seem very funny to Justin Baldoni’s lawyer.
When Bryan Freedman was interviewed by Billy Bush for his Hot Mics podcast, he was questioned about the gag.
“To be honest, I do not know of anyone whose wife has experienced sexual harassment and has joked about that kind of thing,” Freedman stated (see the entire video below). There is not anyone that comes to mind who has done anything similar. Thus, it caught me off guard. He also called the joke the pair’s “new move.”
Former cast members Tina Fey and Amy Poehler came onstage to answer audience questions almost an hour into Sunday’s three-hour+ special.
Sitting next to a beaming Lively was former Saturday Night Live host Ryan Reynolds, one of the numerous celebrities in the audience.
When asked how he was feeling, Reynolds said, “Excellent! Then shot back, looking worried, “Why, what have you heard?”
Lively gave Reynolds a harsh look, but it is safe to presume it was part of the joke.
Reynolds and Lively were beaming as they walked the red carpet together prior to the telecast.
It goes without saying that the social media response was quite unfavorable, with many viewers echoing Freedman’s criticism of SNL, Reynolds, and Lively.
Freedman was also questioned by Bush over the numerous social media influencers who were producing content in favor of Baldoni and conducting their own “sleuthing” through the documents. Freedman said they reflect a very genuine “jury” in contemporary culture and commended their work.
“People get canceled, have projects taken away from them, are humiliated, and are shunned— right away, just when the claim happens,” Freedman said, adding that they are the jury for years. “These individuals genuinely give someone a chance. “Hold on,” they tell the public after searching through items. This does not appear to be accurate. It is just one person helping another, and we are all trying to find the truth, so thank God and the universe for those folks out there.
Lively accused her director and co-star of It Ends With Us, Baldoni, of sexual harassment and started a smear campaign against her in an 80-page complaint. In response, Baldoni sued Lively and Reynolds for $400 million, claiming slander and extortion. Kimberly Nordyke helped write this report.
