Jürgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, has identified the two coaches who have had the biggest impact on his view of the game. Klopp is recognized as one of the best managers of his generation as a result of his success at three different clubs. After taking over as manager at Mainz, he assisted in turning around the club’s fortunes, leading them first to the Bundesliga and subsequently promotion to European competition.
After that, he moved on to Borussia Dortmund, where he coached them to the 2013 Champions League final where they fell to longtime rivals Bayern Munich. With Dortmund, he captured back-to-back Bundesliga titles in the 2010–11 and 2011–12 campaigns. Jurgen Klopp has had great success in Merseyside since taking over as Liverpool’s manager in 2015. He has guided the Reds to victories in the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, FA Cup, and League Cup.

After almost winning a quadruple last season, Jurgen Klopp’s team has struggled this year. They are seven points outside of a Champions League position going into Saturday’s Premier League matchup against title challengers Manchester City. In an interview with BT Sport prior to the match, Klopp named the two coaches who have had the largest influence on his strategy.
He mentioned two football greats: Italian legend Arrigo Sacchi, whose AC Milan club from the late 1980s is considered as one of the all-time greats, and Dutch icon Johan Cruyff, who developed the concept of “total football.” By Jurgen Klopp
“You have to mention Johan Cruyff as one of the most significant figures in the history of football. Since I first began thinking about football, he has established a style of play and is an excellent player and coach. Arrigo Sacchi comes in second for me since he was the inspiration for my best coaches. I made one phone call to Sakchi. We had a translator because neither he nor I speak Italian or German.
“He is a game-changer for me and one of the most significant coaches in the history of the sport. He made a significant improvement to football, and as a result, our teams are now more successful than they were under our prior coaches. This caused us to reconsider the pitch’s design. You probably recall using the man-marking tactic while playing, where you essentially followed the opponent you were marking to the bathroom.

Previously, I was just instructed who to mark and that was it. Too often, the team with the better players won the game since it was a one-versus-one competition on the field, so if the other player was better than you, how could you win? Nobody played the high line because many teams played libero.
Despite having a lengthy number of admirers in the football world as a result of his success over the years, Jürgen Klopp, who has nine management awards to his name and has presided over 1,000 matches at Mainz, Dortmund, and Liverpool, believes he is not someone to look up to as a “role model.”
“I can’t be a role model; I’m not one. I can only play myself, and that is the only part I can play. I’m always honest, which is good in some ways but plainly bad in others. My perseverance in doing what I do is what has led to my success. Without luck, we would all be in worse shape. I don’t believe in solo success in football, and neither do I need it, so having the right people around is important. I enjoy talking about my experiences.
“Everyone experiences success differently. Nothing is worse than becoming accustomed to success because it forces you to acknowledge that it won’t always pan out. You can live a very fulfilling life if you can accept that. You may return as long as you’re in good health.
