The Actor Provides Updates on Sicario 3, Dune: Part Three, and a Potential Return as Thanos

Josh Brolin, the versatile actor known for his commanding presence in some of Hollywood’s biggest franchises, is at the center of a new round of buzz. As he promotes his new horror film, Weapons, Brolin has been candid about his highly anticipated upcoming projects, providing major updates that have sent fans of his work into a frenzy. From the long-awaited third installment of Sicario to the final chapter of the Dune saga and a potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Brolin is generating considerable excitement for his future on the big screen.

A Long-Awaited Return to Sicario

During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Brolin delivered the most concrete news to date on Sicario 3. After years of speculation and mixed updates, he confirmed that a third film is “very, very real.” Brolin, who plays the CIA operative Matt Graver, stated that he had recently heard the news from producers and that original screenwriter Taylor Sheridan is now back at work on the script. While it remains uncertain if director Denis Villeneuve will return, the news is a major step forward for a franchise that has been quietly in development for years. The third film, which is rumored to be titled Sicario: Capos, is expected to continue the gritty, morally complex narrative of the first two movies.

A Satisfying Conclusion for the Dune Saga

The actor also provided a promising update on Dune: Part Three, which is currently in production. Brolin, who will reprise his fan-favorite role as Gurney Halleck, praised the script as “super good” and teased that the film will be a “satisfying finale” for the series. However, he did confirm that his character will have a reduced role in the third movie, which is consistent with the events of the source novel, Dune Messiah. Brolin jokingly said he has been texting with other cast members who are already on set and telling them to “read the script,” as they are unaware of his character’s limited screen time. This update, while bittersweet for Gurney fans, assures audiences that the final film will be a compelling and faithful conclusion to the trilogy.

The Release of Weapons

Brolin’s current media tour is for his new horror film, Weapons, which was released on August 8. The movie, which also stars Julia Garner, is directed by Zach Cregger, the filmmaker behind the hit horror film Barbarian. Brolin plays the father of a child who mysteriously vanishes from an elementary school, and his subsequent search uncovers unsettling secrets. The role showcases a new, dramatic side of the actor, who has been engaging in a number of interviews about his personal connection to the film’s themes of parental love and loss.

A Potential Return to the MCU

In another piece of news that has energized comic book fans, Brolin also expressed his enthusiasm for a possible return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the iconic villain Thanos. When asked if he would ever reprise the role, Brolin stated that he would be on a plane “tomorrow” if he got the call from directors Joe and Anthony Russo. He shared that he remains in frequent contact with the Russo brothers and with his former co-star Robert Downey Jr., a sign of the strong relationships he built during his time with the franchise. With the multiverse now in play in the MCU, the possibility of a Thanos variant appearing in future films has become a very real possibility.
