Ricky Ponting, the head coach of the Delhi Caps, has nothing but admiration for Prithvi Shaw as the IPL 2023 season approaches. The young player has had an outstanding domestic campaign across all forms, including a record-setting triple century in the Ranji Trophy. The opener, however, had a terrible season to begin with and was completely left off the lineup for the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Simon Doull, a former New Zealand cricketer, berated Shaw for having a bad season and being unfit, but he was not at all shocked.
Simon Dole and David Warner with Prithvi Shaw
Shaw has only scored 47 runs in 40 balls over six innings, with his highest total being 15. Shaw’s difficulties persisted throughout the tournament despite the support he received from the Delhi Capitals squad, and in the end, he was substituted as an impact player in the final three games.
But on Monday, the DC administration made a final decision about the controversial Shaw and left him off the lineup for the game against SRH in Hyderabad. We know he is a very excellent player, and he will be fighting to get back into the team, said DC captain David Warner after winning the toss. He can do that. He can do that. He is hungry and determined to return, and I am sure he will.
In an interview with Cricbuzz, Doull expressed that he was unfazed by the decision because he believed Shaw had already paid a price for his inefficiency and poor performance. The seasoned cricketer made his argument in reference to Shaw’s refusal to allow Warner a single during DC’s game against RCB last week. Shaw was sitting on the bench the entire time the team was fielding, according to Dole. He didn’t feel like running between the wickets.
“You can’t keep going down the same road. If something isn’t working, adjust it and figure out where he is in the game. And just now, it is insufficient. In Bangalore, there was an incident with Warner. with a run-out circumstance present. He did nothing as Delhi was fielding the ball while he sat behind the bench, and when he subsequently came out, he was too lethargic to run. In the game, it’s the little things that count, and sometimes they come back to haunt you. He has had a poor season, and I don’t believe he is at all fit. He has also not changed his style of play. He continued, “He has paid the price.
For the game against SRH, DC inserted Sarfaraz Khan in place of Shaw.
