The Actor Discusses His Character’s Evolution, Future Roles, and Personal Journey in Recent Interviews
Hunter Doohan, the actor who rose to fame as Tyler Galpin in the Netflix hit series Wednesday, is back in the spotlight with the release of the show’s second season. With the first half of the new season having premiered on August 6, Doohan is once again at the center of a pop culture phenomenon. At the same time, the actor has been speaking candidly about his career’s trajectory, revealing details about his upcoming projects and his personal life in a series of new interviews.
A Monster’s Return in Wednesday
In the new season of Wednesday, Doohan reprises his role as Tyler Galpin, but with a significant shift from his Season 1 persona. No longer the kind-hearted love interest, Tyler is now a full-blown Hyde, the monstrous creature that terrorized Nevermore Academy in the first season. The actor has been doing a major promotional tour, discussing his character’s evolution with outlets like the Zach Sang Show and Out Magazine. He mentioned that his character spends a lot of the season “chained and shirtless,” a detail that has already caused a stir on social media. Doohan has also shared how he had to prepare for the role by trying to embody the physicality of a “feral and caged animal,” a stark contrast to his previous performance.
From Wednesday to Evil Dead
Beyond his return to Nevermore, Doohan is broadening his horizons with several new and exciting projects. He has already begun filming a major role in the next installment of the horror franchise, Evil Dead, titled Evil Dead Burn. The film, which is being directed by Sébastien Vaniček, is currently in production in New Zealand. Doohan has expressed his excitement for joining the beloved horror series, calling it a “dream project.” He is also set to appear in a “very grounded, real-life drama” film called The Wilderness, a deliberate step to showcase his versatility and avoid being typecast in villainous roles. Additionally, Doohan had a role as Bastian Cooper in the new Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again and has expressed interest in reprising the character in the future.
A Life Beyond the Screen
In his recent interviews, Doohan has also been open about his personal life and career journey. He shared a memorable story about how his Your Honor co-star, Bryan Cranston, officiated his wedding to his husband in 2022. He also spoke about his experience as a queer actor in Hollywood, saying he had to “come out twice” after getting into the industry and that he would love to play a great queer character who is not just defined by their sexuality. Doohan also revealed a funny personal detail about his passions outside of acting, admitting his love for RuPaul’s Drag Race and calling an appearance on the show a “dream bucket list item.”
