Many internet users, filmmakers, and reviewers have expressed their opinions about the current dry spell in Bollywood. Actor Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor, the son of Anil Kapoor, is the most recent participant in this conversation.

He passionately disagreed with a tweet that claimed Bollywood was over. The tweet said, “Bollywood is finished. Salman does not want to act, Aamir has nothing to act in, Akshay has a dozen films, but they are all useless, SRK has a movie in two years, Ajay could do big, but he is playing it safe, and it looks like Ranbir Kapoor is the only one left.”

In response, Kapoor stated that Bollywood is not and should not be solely focused on celebrities who have performed in formulaic movies. “Bollywood is not and should not be only about stars who have been there and done that and formulaic films. It is time for producers and financiers to gamble on low cost high concept films for cinemas without the usual tropes. Prioritize never before seen story telling and keep the upfront costs low and the audience will come,” he wrote at the beginning of his tweet.

“Make 8-15 cr films with minimum p and a and back the makers,” he added. “We made that for 20 cr and it looks visually better than many films that cost 2-3 times that. Why? Because every cent went into the making of the film and not unnecessary costs.” Kapoor added that it is 2025 and the films that get green-lit are even the good ones from the 1980s.

Another discussion with a different netizen was triggered by the actor’s tweets. He concurred with Harsh Varrdhan and wrote, “Instead of rehashing the same old formulas, invest in bold, original projects that actually push cinema forward. It is high time you so-called superstar kids stepped up, seek out producers, work with new directors, and back filmmakers like Motwane or Kashyap.”

In replying to this tweet, the actor promised that if he is backed, he will give the audiences unforgettable films.

“I do not have a lot of money, but I have a lot of passion and ideas,” Harsh wrote. “Filmmaking is a big process and undertaking, but if I am supported, I promise I will give you unforgettable films.”

In 2016, Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor made his feature film debut in Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra’s Mirzya. Critics and moviegoers praised his subsequent picture, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, despite its poor box office performance. Vikramaditya Motwane directed it, and Vikas Bahl, Madhu Mantena, and Anurag Kashyap produced it. Kapoor and his famous father, Anil Kapoor, were last spotted together in Thar.
