Anushka Sharma modelled for various advertisements and worked on the runway before making her film debut in 2008’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi alongside Shah Rukh Khan. As the actor approaches 35, we look back at some of her early ads where she charms the “ladkewale” and displays her silky hair in another. Even in these brief advertisements, Anushka seems at ease, so it is not unexpected that Aditya Chopra and other directors noticed her on the big screen.

Anushka is a part of a group of girls seated dejectedly in a locker room in an advertisement for talcum powder. All the girls’ spirits improve after their friend shows up and after applying talcum powder. Anushka appears lot younger in the advertisement and is later seen dancing with the group in the background.
Anushka is shown consuming a lot of skin and body cream in the second commercial. Her character in the advertisement is made fun of for having dry skin, and after using the cream, she emerges to meet a boy her family has set up for her to meet. Anushka has her hair tied back and is dressed in a bright purple saree.
Anushka’s mother reminds the actress about the boy who is visiting her when she is hanging out in her room in this advertisement. She has a messy hairstyle because her mother pleaded with her to go get her hair done at the salon; she is wearing a yellow tank top and trousers. She makes her hair shine instead by using a hair serum. This obviously makes an impression on a potential boyfriend who sees her dressed up in an orange saree.
In a 2017 interview with Reuters, Anushka stated: “I was aware of the types of advertising I didn’t want to do even while I was modelling. I didn’t want to do “montage” commercials, for example. Aditya Chopra told me when I was cast in my first movie, “I wouldn’t have cast you if you were one of those models who were in a lot of commercials.” I don’t know how that happened, but I knew I didn’t want to do much advertising.”
Anushka most recently appeared with Shah Rukh and Katrina Kaif in Zero (2018). Chakda Express on Netflix marks her return to acting this year. In the biopic, she is portrayed by former Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami.
