Guneet Monga responded to the moment when her speech was interrupted during the 95th Academy Awards ceremony when The Elephant Whispers won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short. In a recent interview, Guneet disclosed how she had initially intended to take Raghu and Ammu, the two calves featured in the movie, to the Oscars to express her gratitude.

Guneet shared the Oscar with Karthik Gonsalves, the director of The Elephant Whispers. The focus of the 41-minute documentary is the relationship between Raghu, an orphaned young elephant, and his mahouts, Boman and Bailey. Bowman and Bailey have devoted their entire lives to nurturing her and keeping poachers at bay. Theppakadu Elephant Camp and Mudumalai Tiger Reserve were used for filming. Guneet and Kartiki recently hosted a press conference with the couple in Mumbai.

When the shortlist was completed, we thought, “Let’s prepare a tux for Raghu and a gown for Ammu.”
