On Friday night in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex, the crème de la crème of the Indian and international arts and entertainment world came to celebrate the official opening of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center (NMACC) at Jio World Gardens.
The entire Ambani family was present for the opening of Nita Ambani’s Dream Culture project. Mukesh Ambani, Akash Ambani, and Anant Ambani, together with their fiancées Radhika Merchant and Shloka Mehta, arrived with their respective families. Akash Ambani also brought his father-in-law Dilip Piramal.
Following their arrival in Mumbai on Friday afternoon with their daughter Malti Mary and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar (along with wife Anjali and daughter Sara), the Citadel actress Priyanka Chopra, husband Nick Jonas, and the great Khans of Bollywood—Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan—arrived on the red carpet (dressed in a casual kurta and blue jeans, and with their many children).
The A-plus list included ‘Thalaivar’ Rajinikanth, Uddhav, Rashmi and Aditya Thackeray in T-shirts, jeans and sandals, renowned sculptor Jeff Koons, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and daughter Aaradhya, Never Have I Ever star Poorna Jagannathan and American… Supermodel Gigi Hadid.
Saif Ali Khan and Kareena (striking in red), Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone (gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes for the cameras), Alia Bhatt (Mahesh Bhatt and with Soni Razdan), Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput, Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, Ekta Kapoor with father Jeetendra and brother Tusshar, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon and Sonam Kapoor.
The centre debuts with the exhibition “Sangam/Sangam,” which includes pieces by international trend-setters such Anselm Kiefer, Cecily Brown, Francesco Clemente, Linda Benglis, and Rakib Shaw, as well as artists Bharti Kher, Bhupen Khakhar, Ranjani Shettar, and Shantibai.
Jeffrey Deitch and Ranjit Hoskote are in charge of organising the show.
The worlds of fashion and history are the subjects of the second inaugural exhibition. The exhibition will feature Indian-inspired western clothing created by Patrick Kinmonth and Rushad Shroff and curated by Hamish Bowles, Global Editor-at-Large, Vogue.
The enormous musical “Civilization to Nation: The Journey of Our Country” will also be featured at the center’s official opening. This colourful picture of Indian history and culture is provided by playwright and director Firoz Abbas Khan using the Natya Shastra, a historic Sanskrit treatise on the performing arts.
Almost 700 artists will be present in the event, which will include puppetry, dance, and music.
