‘Elio’ Going Later This Summer, Sam Raimi’s ‘Send Help’ & James L. Brooks’ ‘Ella McCay’ Also Dated Amid Disney Release Changes

Disney recently moved the release date of the Pixar film Elio from June 13 to June 20 by one week.

The June Pixar films usually release over Father’s Day weekend, but Disney is releasing this one a week later.

Elio will no longer compete against the June 13 live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon from Universal/DreamWorks. Rather, on June 20, it will compete against the adult-skewing zombie game 28 Years Later.

Additionally, Elio’s date change frees up space on Disney’s summer schedule for Lilo & Stitch (May 23), which is still ahead of the highly anticipated blockbuster The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25). Between Looney Tunes (March 14) and Smurfs (July 18), Elio will be the only animated film released during the lengthy interval.

In other Disney release date news on Friday, the dramedy Ella McCay, directed by James L. Brooks and starring Woody Harrelson and Rebecca Hall, is now scheduled for September 9, 2025, according to 20th Century Studios. The story follows a young, idealistic politician who prepares to succeed her mentor, the state’s long-serving incumbent governor, while balancing a demanding professional life and family matters. Keep in mind that the release date falls after the Toronto Film Festival.

On January 30, 2026, the Sam Raimi horror film Send Help, which stars Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien, will open as the 20th title. Logline: Despite their difficult relationship, a competent female employee and her obnoxious boss are left alone on a distant island after an aircraft disaster, and she must utilize her survival abilities to keep them both alive.
