In a recent interview, Dia stated to Indian Express that “when we become actors, we sign the bond of heartache. Heartache when you can’t find an audience for your stories, heartache when you can’t find producers for your stories, and heartache when you have to wait forever for someone to send you work. It’s really tough.” A successful movie may lead actors to believe that it will bring them more work, but that is not always the case, he continued.
Dia added that she called Rajkumar Hirani and pleaded with him to include her in the cast of Sanjay Dutt’s biography, Sanju. “Sanju was oxygen for me. I truly needed this. Because Raju is a buddy, I called him and asked him to please cast me in his film for the first time in my professional career. I need to work, and I want to be in a film, I am not getting any work.’ So they tested me, and they liked what they saw, and I took the part.
She added that before Sanju, she had never called friends for work since she felt too nervous and awkward to do so. “Maybe that’s one of the reasons why I haven’t found other gigs, maybe it takes you to call a director and say, ‘I want to work with you’.”
Dia began acting in movies in the early 2000s after making her screen debut in Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein in 2001 alongside R Madhavan and Saif Ali Khan. With the 2018 film Sanju, she reappeared as a popular face in the industry. Later, he contributed to Anubhav Sinha’s Thappad and the online programme Kaafir.
