It’s interesting to note that Dhoni’s batting has enabled the captain of the Chennai Super Kings to change the course of history in the lucrative league. Dhoni was only 8 runs away from joining an exclusive list that also included AB de Villiers, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli. The Ranchi great has reached 5,000 runs in the IPL, the most lucrative T20 tournament in the world, becoming the seventh player to do so. The four-time IPL champion made the significant accomplishment in his 236th game.
On the opening ball, Dhoni smashed a magnificent six to start his innings. Intriguingly, just twice in his stellar IPL career has Dhoni struck the first ball of his innings for a six. When quick bowler Wood removed the CSK captain on the fourth ball of his over, the 41-year-old had scored 12 runs in three balls. In the high-scoring match between Chennai and Lucknow at Chepauk, the England pacer took three wickets and gave up 49 runs.
