The actress recently discussed the salary gap between male and female actors in the profession in an interview with Humans of Bombay. In order to ensure equity in the sector, she also emphasized the significance and necessity of a merit-based system.
“Very seldom have I encountered a producer who says, ‘I will pay you more.’ Perhaps I am not in a position to demand it, but I am sure other actors are,” Shefali stated.
She also mentioned that the pay gap still exists even though female-led films are now gaining a lot of traction in the business.
Shefali went on to say that this approach is incredibly unjust and asked whether female actors were being paid the same as their male counterparts, whose films are likely not doing as well as those starring women at the moment.
“I only hope that producers offer money based on talent and not gender, and that actors who deserve it for their contribution receive fair compensation,” she said in closing.
