David Corenswet is poised to redefine the iconic role of Superman in the upcoming film Superman: Legacy, directed by James Gunn. Set to release on July 11, 2025, the film marks a fresh start for the DC Universe, with Corenswet’s portrayal bringing a new dimension to the beloved superhero.
From Juilliard to Krypton
Born in Philadelphia, Corenswet pursued his passion for acting at the prestigious Juilliard School, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama. His early career included roles in series like The Politician and Hollywood, showcasing his versatility and range. In Superman: Legacy, he stars as Clark Kent/Superman, embodying a 25-year-old hero balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.

Transforming for the Role
To portray Superman authentically, Corenswet underwent a rigorous physical transformation. Under the guidance of personal trainer Paolo Mascitti, he gained 40 pounds of muscle through a tailored diet and intense workout regimen. His training focused on building a strong, “farm boy” physique, emphasizing functional strength for the role’s demanding stunts.
Upcoming Projects
Beyond Superman, Corenswet is set to star in the biographical film Mr. Irrelevant, portraying John Tuggle, the last player drafted in the 1983 NFL Draft. The film, directed by Jonathan Levine, also features Isabel May and Michael Shannon, with production underway in Australia.
A New Era for Superman
James Gunn’s casting of Corenswet reflects a desire to return to Superman’s core values of truth, justice, and kindness. Gunn highlighted Corenswet’s “square” personality and love for classic American music as aligning with Superman’s traditional persona. With a fresh perspective and a grounded approach, Corenswet is set to lead the DC Universe into a new era.
