According to the list shared on social media, the movie was edited to remove a lot of profanity and some nudity. All speeches and allusions to the Honorable Prime Minister (voice-over) were deleted as part of one edit. As well as these changes, “Prime Minister was substituted with Minister and voice-over of Chief Minister of Delhi was changed wherever he appeared/appeared (also removed from sub-titles).”
added additional edits: minimised scenes of police brutality/beating migrant labourers, in particular eliminated scenes of direct hitting; muted the word “jihad” from the conversation that stated “corona jihad has failed”; The line “Partition of India seems to be..” was changed to “This is an unprecedented mass exodus” since it implied a comparison between the current phenomenon and the partition of India (also from the sub-title).
Responding to the edits, Swara tweeted, “Nothing stings like facts.. We have a new disease in India: Allergy to facts. #mobs #censorship.”
A speech by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a reference to a dialogue were removed from the movie’s initial trailer, which was also cancelled and then released with revisions. Anubhav Sinha commented on the editing in an interview with PTI, saying, “Of course, these alterations are clear. The adjustments indicated in the caravan are accurate; it was taken off the air for two days. Yet the filmmaker is in it for business reasons. The movie has a purity to it that I would prefer to leave alone.
Actor Rajkumar Rao stated, “Only the makers can respond to this.” regarding the modifications. I don’t edit or upload the caravan to social media. I’m not in charge of it. It was a clever choice. You will soon meet Anubhav Sir, who is the only one who can tell you about it.
