Broadway Box Office Slips While ‘All In’, ‘Romeo + Juliet’, ‘The Outsiders’ & ‘Wicked’ Sell Out

Broadway was in a bit of a winter slump last week, with all but four productions—Cabaret, Redwood, Romeo & Juliet, and Wicked—reporting declines in ticket sales from the week before. This is because the busy spring season is quickly approaching.

For the week ending February 9, the 27 productions brought in a total of $28,135,565—approximately a 10% decrease (about $3 million) compared to the previous week, when 29 performances were featured. Cult of Love and Left on Tenth were no more. The week’s total attendance dropped by 4% to 247,887. The final week of Broadway’s yearly 2-for-1 promotion may be somewhat to blame for the higher percentage of grosses.

Romeo & Juliet, starring Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler, had a strong spike of $19,919 to $1,025,290 as closing night, February 16, drew near. The show sold out Circle in the Square.

All In: Comedy About Love will also close this Sunday after selling out at the Hudson and earning $1,163,537—a substantial $917,170 decrease from the previous, highly anticipated Jimmy Fallon week. Eureka Day, which shuts on Sunday as well, brought in $347,328 last week, or almost 81% of the Friedman’s capacity.

Wicked and The Outsiders were also sold out. & Juliet, Cabaret, Death Becomes Her (99%), English, Gypsy, Hadestown (99%), Hamilton, Hell’s Kitchen, Maybe Happy Ending, MJ, Redwood, and The Book of Mormon were all very near to reaching 95% or higher capacity. Mary! was at 93% and $760,485, which are good figures, though slightly lower than when Cole Escola was the headliner.

Wicked, as usual, was the week’s top seller with $2,324,693. At $1,602,483, The Lion King came in second.

As of the 38th week of the 2024–25 season, Broadway has made $1,292,127,236 thus far, up almost 18% from the same period the previous year. The overall number of attendees has also increased by 17% to 10,129,661.
