Naresh Sharma, the father of composer-lyricist Mithun Sharma, designed the soundtrack for Romance, a 1990 box office success. Aashiqui 2, the next installment in the franchise, was out in 2013, and it was truly a coincidence that Mithun Sharma, Sharma’s son, joined the team to compose the music after 23 years.
Mithun remembers writing the soundtrack for Aashiqui 2 as the movie marks its tenth anniversary.
“I hid my enrollment in Aashiqui 2 from my father for a very long period. As there was no interaction with him, it gave me a lot of room to work, admitted Mithun, whose career received a major boost as a result of the film’s success.
He adds he had “great aspirations” for her to use his music to bring back the magic “I went to him and informed him when the song’s basic concept was finished. My father barely said anything. He is also my guru, thus I am unable to interact with him very much. But a few days later, when he heard the finished song You Are the One He contacted (director) Mohit Suri, who was at the time in South Africa, while working on the movie, and told him, “What my kid has done for your film is better than what I have done in my entire career.” It felt wonderful.
The entire crew needed a pat on the back from someone as seasoned as their father, and Mithun recalls that it was a “very emotional” occasion for both him and Suri.
One of the most frequently played songs at live events and reality shows is You Are the One, which generated a tremendous response. For YouTube, hundreds of covers were created. However, Mithun acknowledged that when he was working on it, he did not anticipate such a positive response.
“Mukesh Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt, the directors, warned me it would be a big blockbuster, but I never truly considered the repercussions. I certainly didn’t anticipate that he would enjoy it that much. In fact, my phone started buzzing when I was unaware that the first teaser for the song had been out. As more and more individuals arrived, I began to worry that something was amiss. I then realized how big of a hit it is “He murmurs.
If you ask Mithun what it is about that tune that makes it everlasting, he replies that it is the intention rather than the idea of creating any history. The musician explains, “I attempted to focus on a sense I could relate with.
“I was also tempted to try new things, but I resisted and stayed true to my destiny as a musician. And I’m pleased I did since it confirmed my conviction that one should always act on their convictions. Even now, many still remark that the song has a distinct Mithun sound. It feels good to accomplish something “He imparts.
Gemini describes it as his “most honest moment with his audience” and says he is frequently asked to sing the song during his live performances. He says, “I only do Aashiqui when all the borders between me and my audience dissolve, and we become one. I don’t only see it as a show to impress people. Beyond the number of streams, this song is a reward for me, and when I perform it, I let people know that I’m giving them a glimpse into a part of my life.
