Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday penned a long note remembering Sur Samrat Mukesh on his 100th birth anniversary. Reacting to the post, Mukesh’s grandson, actor Neil Nitin Mukesh tweeted, “Regards Hon. Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji. Sir, really humbled and honored by your generosity. It is indeed a proud moment for the entire Mukesh family. My father also joins me in thanking you. Your kind gesture on this special day will be etched in our hearts forever.
Playback singer Mukesh Chand Mathur, also known by his stage name Mukesh, is regarded as one of the most well-known and revered performers in the Bollywood sector.
Mukesh, who was born on July 22, 1923, in Delhi, started his playback singing career in the 1940s and set himself apart from other singing greats of the era with his heartfelt performances.
With the song Kai Baar Yehi Dekha Hai from the movie Rajnigandha (1973), for which he won the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer, he garnered other nominations and awards. His collaborations with talented composers Shankar Jaikishan, Naushad, and many others resulted in a number of melodies that will live in the memory forever.
Mukesh wed Saral Trivedi, the rich Raichand Trivedi’s daughter. Although Mukesh and Saral’s marriage could not be finalized with Saral’s father’s consent, they were forced to elope. On July 22, 1946, they were wed in a Kandivali temple. Rita, singer Nitin, Nalini (who passed away in 1978), Mohnish, and Namrata were among the couple’s five children (Amrita). Neil Nitin Mukesh is an actor and Mukesh’s grandson.
