Navya Naveli Nanda wants to forge her own path outside of the spotlight of Bollywood. The granddaughter of Amitabh Bachchan, who is more interested in the “business side” of her family, claims that her relatives have helped her understand how gender roles have changed over time.
“I was fortunate to grow up in a family where equality between the sexes has always existed. The 25-year-old claims, “Nobody’s really imposed any gender roles on any one particular person. It definitely gave me a lot of clarity on how things should be. I am appreciative that I was not raised in a setting where gender roles were forced upon me.
Navya, the daughter of Shweta Bachchan and her businessman-husband Nikhil Nanda, has been pursuing her passion project to advance a number of social causes, including social justice, gender equality, and women’s empowerment. We inquire if he has ever considered acting as his brother Agastya Nanda gets ready for his acting debut.
“Well, my family is in the business. As a result, I made it very clear that I had no interest in acting. I only became aware that this was what I wanted to do toward the end of college,” she admits.
She traveled to Delhi earlier this month for the first leg of her youth pan-India roadshow You Grow, Girl, which addressed all issues affecting youth, from the world they want to see to combating street harassment, in keeping with her passion.
“I come from a strong female family and community, and I have always advocated for the rights or empowerment of women. I was aware that having a platform where I could do that and express some of those concerns was a privilege and a lucky break. So, I tried to gather and organize everything to maximize the impact of actually speaking things,” she said when discussing managing her passion project.
It’s great to be back home in the city where I grew up, Navya, who is also receiving praise and recognition for her work in the health sector, says when asked about moving to Delhi. I spent 13 years living here. I’m glad Delhi hosted the roadshow’s opening stop.
