Actor-writer Zeeshan Quadri made his film debut in 2009 when he co-wrote and starred in Gangs of Wasseypur, one of the most recognizable works of Indian cinema (GOW). Qadri did express one regret to us in an exclusive interview, though. “I wish I had requested royalties for Gangs of Wasseypur. Things would have been different if I had a little more business sense,” says the actor, who most recently starred in Bloody Daddy with Shahid Kapoor.
Despite his inexperience, Qadri talks about how he bartered and tried to “get a good deal.” “I promised to act in it as well if I wrote the script. Similar to Sylvester Stallone, who wrote the screenplay for Rocky Balboa but refused to sell it unless he was cast as the lead. It seemed like a wise choice to me. Quadry emphasized, “But if I had written that script today, I would have demanded royalties in my contract.
When you ask him if the most well-known franchise will have a third movie, he makes a hint about it but doesn’t provide a firm response. “There were talks about a third film with Anurag Kashyap, but nothing is official as of yet. Let’s wait and see. Anurag and an OTT platform are negotiating a deal. He states, “If a deal is reached, the movie will be made; if not, it won’t be made,” but quickly adds, “You can’t make Wasseypur every time.”
The actor claims that several projects were created that were “based or inspired” by the classic after the success of Wasseypur. “I won’t mention his name, but everyone is aware that people have built successful careers by copying him. However, I don’t want copies of my work, and I’m unable to produce Wasseypur on a daily basis. When one or two of these projects are completed, that is sufficient. And I’m searching for such a tale. When I do, you can be sure I’ll make a movie similar to Wasseypur.
What do they mean by “such a story,” though? “A true tale that is also current. Its setting must be distinctive. Additionally, since the audience enjoys surprises, it should have some. Because no one had ever seen that side of Bihar before, Wasseypur was a huge success, claims the Halahal actor.
While it may seem like the rise of OTT has given filmmakers more freedom to experiment and develop fresh ideas, Quadri thinks otherwise and claims that things are not always as straightforward as they seem. It is untrue that all types of experiments are accepted by OTT platforms. That also raises a lot of problems. Because no one was bothering him, Anurag was then able to create Wasseypur. His hand was free. Many people are sitting to make suggestions about who to cast and how to cast in the present. It is not that simple. But everything will take place at the appropriate time, he concluded.
