The director left a comment on the threads on Monday, not long after the Merry Christmas producers revealed their revised release date for Yoddha on the same day. He bemoaned the fact that studios and producers scheduled competing films for the same day “without the courtesy of a phone call.” Onir, a director, has now reacted to Karan’s assertion.

Large Bollywood releases become unhappy when there is another high budget release on the same day, according to a tweet from Onir, and they talk about how everyone in the industry should look out for one another but when they act, they don’t stop to consider. To survive, a low-budget independent film shouldn’t be allowed to appear on many quality programs.
Indirect Comment Towards Karan?
Going on a date without the courtesy of a phone call is hopefully not the way forward for studios and producers, Karan Johar remarked on the forums on Monday. If we do not stand as a fraternity during these trying and dramatic days, it is pointless to call ourselves that.
While the action movie Yoddha, starring Sidharth Malhotra, Disha Patani, and Raashi Khanna, was made by Karan’s production company Dharma Productions, the dark comedy thriller Merry Christmas was made by their company Matchbox Pictures. It is a bilingual (Hindi and Tamil) film co-produced by Ramesh Taurani’s Tips Industries and stars Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif. The current release date for both movies is December 15.
