In 1998, Malaika and Arbaaz got married. In March 2016, they made the announcement of their divorce, which was formalised in 2017. While Arjun Kapoor has helped Malaika rediscover love, Arbaaz is seeing Italian model-dancer Giorgia Andriani.
Malaika stated, “Co-parenting is always difficult, you are not always on the same page about a lot of things. I spoke about co-parenting and being a single mother at the India Today Conclave 2023. There is always something that doesn’t quite fit the image, especially when you part ways. But happily, Arbaaz and I have improved; we have become better people. We take satisfaction in being able to coexist without falling out of love and giving our infant the care he requires and deserves. Whether or not his parents are present, we are by his side at every turn. But as a group, we are strong. That, in my opinion, is what counts.
Malaika discussed keeping the “Khan” surname after her divorce during the event. She said, “I’ve heard from a lot of people that dropping the last name is the biggest mistake I’m doing. You don’t realise how significant a surname is, everyone remarked. I have a lot of regard for my former spouses’ families and ex-in-laws. He has shown me a great deal of love. I felt more in control of my identity just by being able to eliminate that surname and resume using my maiden name. I now feel like I can accomplish anything in life.
