Malaika Arora recently spoke about how she became well-known in Bollywood by marrying into the Khan family. In May 2017, Malaika and Arbaaz divorced after 19 years of marriage. Malaika recounted that people had advised her that the surname had a lot of “weightage” when she made the decision to remove the “Khan” surname and return to her mother home. Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan parted ways in 2017.
At the India Today Conclave 2023, Malaika was questioned about whether the Khan family should receive credit for her success. She responded: “While it has greatly improved my life, I don’t believe I could ever truly relax knowing that my last name was famous. I don’t believe that was my only lifelong ambition.” Although it gave me many opportunities, I still feel that I must work at the end of the day despite having a married last name.Every day of my life, I have had to work hard to stay in the game and establish my worth. This is true even though I continued to work on the day I adopted my surname before switching back to my maiden name.
“Several people have told me that losing the surname is the biggest error I’m doing. I frequently hear, “You have no idea how much a surname is worth,” from people. My ex-in-laws and ex-family have shown me a lot of love, and I appreciate them greatly. I am very much a part of the family and have a child, but I needed to be able to stand on my own two feet for myself, and it wasn’t simply because of my last name. It simply provided me a sense of self when I was able to delete the surname and resume using my maiden surname. I got the impression that I could accomplish anything in life.
