Aishwarya Rai talks about portraying Rani Nandini in the Tamil film Ponniyin Selvan I in 2022 after playing the title part of Nandini in her 1999 box office hit Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. In Ponniyin Selvan II, which premieres on April 28, she will reprise her role as Nandini.Aishwarya Rai in images from the films Ponniyin Selvan II and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
Aishwarya was questioned over playing the role of Nandini again in a movie at a promotional press conference on Tuesday in Mumbai. Khoobsoorat ittefaq hai na, he said. Amazingly, that’s not at all what it is (surprised to know that this actually happened). In reality, Nandini from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was a highly memorable character. She has been born. I am so appreciative that I had the opportunity to portray Nandini because she will always hold a special place in the hearts of the audience and, of course, of me. And that was with Sanjay Bhansali, and today, naturally, I got to portray Nandini in Ponniyan Selvan with my Mani Garu. I think, it’s a huge blessing that I get to play such powerful women, such layered people, and such character-driven women who have such an impact on so many lives. Since there is a relativity, I am incredibly glad.
Nandini was Aishwarya’s debut role in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. In the movie, Aishwarya was portrayed wearing traditional attire. Her character was in love with Sameer, played by Salman Khan, but she was made to marry Vanraj, played by Ajay Devgn, who tried to bring the two lovers back together.
Ponniyin Selvan II features a double part for Aishwarya. She portrayed Rani Nandini in the first film, which included a brief scene in which she was seen as the elderly and dumb Mandakini or Oomai Rani. Both of their characters will be the focus of the second section.
