Varun Dhawan got his start in films through Karan Johar, not his father, the director David Dhawan. The actor didn’t expect his father to give him his big break in films; he made his acting debut with Karan’s Student Of The Year (2012) opposite Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra. The actor, who turned 36 on April 23, said he had known since he was a little child that his father wanted him to advance in life on the strength of his own abilities. He remembered a day when he was at school and wanted to switch schools, thinking that his father would support him. Instead, after the results were announced, his father advised him not to participate.

The actor co-starred in the movie Main Tera Hero (2014), Judwaa 2 (2017), and Coolie No. 1 with his father David (2020). In the film Dishoom, he collaborated with his brother, the director Rohit Dhawan (2016). Varun, however, also said that his father was an outsider to Bollywood who put in a lot of effort and succeeded. When Varun was born, the Dhawan family made numerous sacrifices to become a prosperous film producer while living in a modest one-room flat in Bandra.
The actor recounted asking his father for assistance when he sought to enrol in Mumbai’s Dhirubhai Ambani School in a 2018 interview with GQ India. “I remember this time I was in class ten, when Dhirubhai Ambani School had just opened and so many of my friends were seeking for admission,” he recalled. I recollect saying to my father, “Dad, I want to apply for this. Can you call?” I waited for the outcome but did not enter. Did you call, I questioned her. He replied “no.” It shouldn’t have been given to you.
The next time we’ll see Varun is in Nitesh Tiwari’s Baawal with Janhvi Kapoor. With Samantha Ruth Prabhu, he is currently collaborating on the Hindi adaptation of Prime Video’s Citadel with the filmmakers Raj and DK. Last week, he went to the film’s London premiere. Also, a recent announcement stated that his previous movie, Bhediya, would get a sequel (2022). Along with co-star Kriti Sanon, the actor is anticipated to return for the sequel.
