It is reasonable to conclude that Prithvi Shaw has had a terrible start to IPL 2023 with scores of 13, 12, 7, 0, 15 and 0. He has once again shown his raw pace and weaknesses against the moving ball. In six efforts throughout the IPL, Shaw has failed to hold out till the end of the powerplay even once. He batted 40 balls overall and only managed to knock 8 fours. Shaw is clearly incapable of doing this. Although long batting has never been his forte in this format, he is yet to be able to provide Delhi Capitals with a single fast start in the 16th edition of the competition. His strike rate of 117 is far lower than any other time in his IPL career.

The outcome is significant for Washington. After losing their first five games, they overcame a daunting 128-run target set at the Kotla to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders. This is not to imply that Shaw is the sole cause of DC’s poor tournament showing, but as one of their star players at the top of the lineup, he unquestionably bears the lion’s share of the blame.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan responded to Shaw’s struggles in the IPL by saying the gifted right-handed batter can no longer play for fame alone. The time to find a method to score runs, according to Vaughan, is now.
“Mark Wood bowled him in the beginning of the competition. His legs were immobile. He was expecting the short, but when it pitched, he was far from the ball’s line. I believe Prithvi scored runs. Needed. He just can’t live up to the reputation; he isn’t allowed to discuss prior actions; instead, he must occasionally score runs. He’s off to a bad start. I don’t believe he will continue after the powerplay. Gone, “Posted on Cricbuzz was Vaughan.
The fact that Shaw entered this IPL in excellent form only serves to highlight how significant it is. His aggressive Syed Mushtaq Ali T20s performances and a barrage of runs in the Ranji Trophy also helped to make his return to the National team possible. Ricky Ponting, the current head coach of DC and a former captain of Australia, said that Shaw’s performance leading up to the IPL will be his finest yet.
The Mumbai-born man, though, has moved south. The management would hope that Shaw would also be able to turn the tables in the second half of the season since DC is coming off a victory versus KKR at the conclusion.
