In the 1981 film Silsila, directed by Yash Chopra, Ramesh Talwar collaborated with Jaya Bachchan as the latter’s assistant. The actor and the director have reunited for another medium after a long absence. She agrees to accompany Ramesh on two separate overseas performances of the plays Maa Retires Hoti Hai and Dr. Mukta. The performer was initially concerned that her first movie would be a “failure.” Nonetheless, the directors were able to reassure her that they would practice for several days and even perform it in front of a small crowd before going on tour.

Working with Jaya on Dr. Mukta was Ramesh, who had previously directed the movies Doosra Aadmi (1977), Basera (1981), and Sahiban (1993). She portrays a woman in the drama who must keep numerous secrets from her family. He visited other countries and gave plays in America. The director stated that his US followers once traveled 300 miles to see him perform live. At most locations, Jaya was hesitant to sign autographs for fans, but she eventually did.
“The spirit with which Jaya ji embraced that part made me worry that something would happen to her,” the director recently told ETimes. She is a natural actress, so I used to advise her to refrain from identifying too strongly with the part. Keep in mind that this is just a play. She’ll take it in stride. The only thing, though, that she skipped was signing autographs. To obtain autographs, people would travel great distances. I would respectfully ask him for something. A Jaya ji supporter drove 300 miles to see our performance. Don’t tell me all of this, Jaya ji commanded. Discuss drama. But ultimately, he gave her and other people autographs.
Also, he remembered how his staff had assisted him in setting up a meeting with him for the play before Jaya joined the cast. “I asked a Jaya ji employee to introduce me to him. To meet with him, he called. I informed him that he would need to prepare for the play for 40 days. He claimed to have never performed in a play. She remarked, “I shouldn’t be a failure in the play. I promised her that before leaving for abroad, we will perform the play in Mumbai after 40 days of rehearsal. I hosted a rehearsal at Bhaidas Hall in Vile Parle when the play was finished. Amitabh Bachchan had traveled to see the play with his friends, family, and well-wishers.
