Cricketer Shreyas Iyer from India He won’t be able to participate in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June or the current Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a back issue. Iyer, the regular captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), will require surgery abroad and won’t be able to train for at least three months, according to ESPNcricinfo.
Iyer has been experiencing back pain since his return from the Bangladesh series in December, and the ailment was brought on by a nerve irritation from a bulging disc in his right lower back. Iyer was unable to play in the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka in January or the first Test of the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in February after receiving six injections for his soreness. Iyer was back for the following three Tests in the four-match series, although he was later disqualified for failing to bat in the opening innings of the fourth Test in Ahmedabad.
The Mumbaikar has been absent for a while but is currently receiving rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru under the direction of the BCCI medical experts. But, he hasn’t been able to train because of this.
The Knight Riders had high hopes for Iyer to return during the second half of the IPL season, but his recovery has not gone as planned. As a result, Nitish Rana was selected to serve as the IPL’s interim captain this season. Iyer was a crucial middle-order batsman, therefore his absence would be felt by the Knight Riders as a major loss. In the 2021 IPL season, he has scored 509 runs at an average of 42.41 thanks to recent strong play.
