On Day 8 (Thursday), Sunny Deol’s action drama Jaat maintained its strong performance, grossing Rs. 4 crore, which was equal to its Wednesday earnings, bringing its total India net to Rs. 61.5 crore. Although the movie has done well this week, Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, which opened in theaters today following a robust surge of advance reservations, will now pose a serious threat. The true test for Jaat starts this weekend, since both films aim to appeal to comparable audiences, particularly in North India.

Jaat had an impressive first weekend, earning Rs. 9.5 crore on Day 1, Rs. 9.75 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 14 crore on Sunday. Monday took in Rs. 7.25 crore (boosted by Ambedkar Jayanti in several states), Tuesday came in Rs. 6 crore, and Wednesday and Thursday brought in Rs. 4 crore each. The weekday collections gradually declined. The movie has done well in important regions like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi-NCR despite the decline.

The movie made a total of Rs. 76 crore worldwide, of which Rs. 67.85 crore came from domestic sales and Rs. 8.15 crore from foreign sales. Occupancy has been especially high in cities like Delhi, Lucknow, and Jaipur; on opening day, Jaipur even surpassed Mumbai. Jaat will require a strong weekend push to sustain its box office momentum, though, as Kesari Chapter 2 is receiving positive reviews and large audiences.

Sunny Deol co-stars with Randeep Hooda, Ramya Krishnan, Viineet Kumar Singh, Regina Cassandra, and Jagapathi Babu in Gopichand Malineni’s Hindi debut film, Jaat. Although the movie got off to a good start and was well-received in the northern belt, its future success now hinges on how well it handles growing competition from Kesari Chapter 2, which has already gathered steam thanks to favorable early reviews and robust advance ticket sales. It is unclear which movie will do best at the box office during the weekend as both compete for the same audience in the days ahead.
