Fedora may come this year with tuxes on the Croisette! Harrison Ford and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” will be available May 18.
After some time, Croisette has become home to the most well-known fictional archaeologist in the world. Yet on May 18, 15 years to the day after “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” also had its debut, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
On June 30, the final film in the series will be released worldwide in theaters, but the most renowned film festival in the world will be where reviewers will get their first look at the James Mangold-directed picture.
“I had the privilege of come to Cannes in 1995 with my first film as part of Directors Fortnight,” Mangold added. I’m glad to be back with a bit larger show 28 years later. We’re so thrilled to take you on one last Indiana Jones adventure with my illustrious colleague!
The only thing that is known about “Dial of Destiny” is that it will switch between a 1960s setting and World War II flashbacks, the better so that the Nazis can be revived in CGI like in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Last Crusade”-style indie classics.
John Rhys-Davies (Sallah from “Raiders” and “The Last Crusade”), Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Ethan Isidore, and Mads Mikkelsen are also featured in “Dial of Destiny.”
“Dial of Fate” seems to be centered on The Legacy. Some Nazis who were never brought to punishment are after Indy because of what he did during World War Two, which continues to plague him decades later. Might there be a time-travel component as well? We’ll see.
The first independent film to be directed by someone other than Steven Spielberg was Mangold’s. Jez and John Henry Butterworth from his previous film, “Ford v Ferrari,” will write the script alongside David Koepp. Like with all of his other films, the 91-year-old John Williams composed the soundtrack.
The “Raiders” and “Last Crusade” scenes in the first “Dial of Destiny” teaser were particularly stunning since they captured the enchantment of the first three films (though true fans know “Temple of Doom” is the best). the trailer is below:
