Currently in production is the historical drama film Shakuntalam, which was written and is being directed by Gunasekhar. It is distributed by Sri Venkateswara Creations and produced by Neelima Guna through Guna Teamworks. The movie, which was based on a well-known drama by Kalidasa called Abhigyana Shakuntalam, starred Samantha in the title role of Shakuntala and Dev Mohan as King Dushyanta of the Puru dynasty.
In supporting parts, it also has Mohan Babu, Jisshu Sengupta, Madhu, Gautami, Aditi Balan, and Ananya Nagalla. The movie will debut in theatres on April 14, 2023.
