‘Nosferatu’, Focus Features’ 2nd Highest-Grossing Movie At Domestic Box Office, Sets Peacock Date After Long Theatrical Window
Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, Focus Features’ second-highest grossing film ever at the domestic box office, will finally be released on Peacock on February 21.
Focus’ sibling streamer will be available in theaters for 58 days, which is one of the longer periods for a 2024 release from the Univeral specialist division. The Focus Features films Drive-Away Dolls (60 days) and Housekeeping for Beginners (63 days) have the longest theatrical-to-SVOD windows.
Easily becoming Eggers’ highest-grossing film, Dracula made $95.4 million in the US and $175.9 million worldwide. At the American box office, Nosferatu is Focus’s second highest-grossing film, trailing only 2019’s Downton Abbey ($96.8M). Nosferatu will probably continue to be Focus’ second-best show despite the criticism, falling $1.4 million short of the PBS British series’ feature gross. Since Columbia Pictures’ 1992 release of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, directed by Francis Ford Coppola ($82.5M domestic), Nosferatu is undoubtedly the highest-grossing major studio release of a Dracula film in the United States.
Focus is so thrilled about Eggers that they have committed to Werwulf, their third feature picture with the director, which will be released in theaters around Christmas 2026.
In addition, Nosferatu has four Oscar nominations and five BAFTA Award nominations. Jarin Blaschke is nominated for Best Cinematography, Linda Muir is nominated for Best Costume Design, David White, Traci Loader, and Suzanne Stokes-Munton are nominated for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Craig Lathrop and Beatrice Brentnerová are nominated for Best Production Design.
Peacock will broadcast Eggers as well as Nosferatu: An Inside Look, which will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the film’s production and include commentary from the cast and some of the Oscar-nominated creatives.
